Look at what I got in the mail today!

Maple Key Comics vol 1!  It includes the first chapter of a new comic by me, A Dragon At The Gatehouse.  Each chapter is 12 pages, and guarantees to be full of jokes, action and drama.

I’m excited to be a part of this anthology.  Flipping through the book just now, the comics look awesome, and I can’t wait to dig my eyes into it.

It’s here, it’s, here, Maple Key Comics #1 has arrived!  I couldn’t be happier with my stack of contributor copies, and have been poring over the stories all week. It feels so good to hold it in my hands!  Everybody really pushed themselves and I feel like I can hear their stats leveling up (ding! kbling! ding!) as I read. Here are a few of my favorite pages so far (including some of MIIIIINE) - I could barely narrow it down to fit Tumblr, haha.  There’s so much more to read so why doncha join in?

Maple Key mastermind Joyana McDiarmid (heartsandminis) and Josh Lees (lickspittlecomics) will be representing maplekeycomics  at MoCCA this weekend, and I’ll be helping out too. Come say hi!

And while you’re at it, why not check out the rest of my fellow contributors’ tumblrs: Sasha Steinberg sahsashas, April Malig aprilmalig, Luke Howard andsoluke, Neil Brideau ohboycomics, Sophie Goldstein redinkradio, Laurel Holden angstuniversity, Carl Antonowitz thulsadude, Rachel Dukes @mixtapecomics, Dan Rinylo drinylo, Mathew New mathewnew, Will Payne williamkpayne … Whew! I think that’s every one, except Iris Yan!

    I am excited.

    Hello Lizbians,

It’s that time of the year again, for my annual birthday request. The best gift you could give me for my birthday is to share my comics with friends who you think would enjoy them as much as you do. As an artist, the only external gratification I get is that people (sometimes) like my work! This year is a little different, because in February my first new Top Shelf book in 5 years will be available in comic shops and bookstores! Alone Forever: The Singles Collection is a compendium of all the Alone Forever strips from my website, as well as new material never available anywhere else.

Here’s where you come in: If you’ve enjoyed the comics series that I’ve been posting online since 2010, please consider buying the book!

    1. Pre-order is available from Top Shelf Productions.  Ordering the book online from Top Shelf puts the money directly into my publishers hands, which is better than siphoning it through a conglomerate like Amazon.

    2. Actually requesting the book from your local comic shop or independent book store.  This method is probably my favorite, because it supports a local business, my publisher, and myself.  The more people that request the book from an actual storefront, the more copies that might get ordered for the shelf, that way a browser can discover the book and enjoy it just as much as you!

    3. Just reblogging your favorite Liz Prince comic, and pointing people towards my website.  Who knows, maybe you’ll gain me a lifelong reader, and for that I’d be eternally grateful!

Thanks for supporting me through another awesome year of drawing comics.  Seriously, if it weren’t for you readers, I wouldn’t exist!

    Process post!

The Chicago Zine Fest is currently running a pin-back button-pack fundraiser-attack featuring awesome buttons by Nicole J. Georges, John Porcellino, Suzy X, Lilli Carré & Ramsey Beyer.  I was lucky enough to be asked to be the sixth artist in the group.  It’s a real honor to be included in a list with these fantastic folks.  Above are some images connected to my design.

My first design was a pun, “Bound to be a great zine!”  I submitted the drafts above to see what the organizers thought, and they told me they wanted something a little more recognizable as my style, so I came back with the photocopier-head reading a zine, snowman stapling zines, and a bug reading a zine about bugs.  They picked the bug.

Fun fact: fellow button team-mate Ramsey Beyer & I were co-founding organizers (along with Matt Whispers & STILL CURRENT (GEE WHIZ!) organizer Leslie Perrine) of CZF. I’m terrible with color, so I decided I would use the color palette Sara Drake used for the first year’s poster.

One final unused idea (not shown, or finalized beyond my sketchbook) was an anthropomorphic pizza slice yelling “PIZZA & ZINES!”…next time.

    Support the Chicago Zine Fest!
